Second what B.ferguson1980 said about the Colca Canyon and the Condors, well worth it an and breathtaking, but as a tip within a tip get up early to get there for the dawn and ignore all the twats stopping to take photos of the views, they will still be there on the way down but the Condors won’t wait for you. Good job we got the same advice from our guide.

The problem that Peru has is that there is so much to do. It's like three different countries - the coast, the mountains and the jungle.
You haven't mentioned how long your coming for, if it's just for a few weeks then the south with Cusco, Arequipa, etc. will keep you busy.
I would say keep your wits about you, on the whole Peruvians are friendly and helpful but there's been a large influx of Venezuelans and things are changing.
I'm on the north coast, an hour from Lima by plane or 14 hours on the bus. If your up this way and need a bed or catch a game give us a shout.

As an alternative to flying, bus to Cuzco from Lima is cheap but it's 24 hours on a bus so you might think fuck that, however you won't suffer altitude sickness when you arrive and lose a day or two anyway, bus is gruelling and at times scary but stunning traveling through the high Andes, especially cold early morning.

In Lima have a go in a taxi cholo if they still have them. Have a cerviche and cold beer, don't wander out of the touristy areas at night.
